Advocacy

At the Texas Public Health Association (TPHA), we believe that strong public health policy is the foundation for healthier communities. Our Policy and Advocacy work ensures that the voices of public health professionals are heard at the local, state, and national levels.

We monitor legislation, educate decision-makers, and provide nonpartisan expertise to inform policies that protect and promote the health of all Texans. TPHA members play an active role in shaping policies on issues ranging from disease prevention and environmental health to health literacy and emergency preparedness.

Through advocacy campaigns, policy briefs, and opportunities to engage directly with lawmakers, we empower our members to turn knowledge into action. Together, we work to advance a healthier future by ensuring that sound science, community needs, and equity remain at the heart of public health policy in Texas.

Advocacy Webinars

TPHA is committed to providing information that will educate TPHA members and the public on public health advocacy efforts in Texas. A series of topics was designed to strengthen members’ understanding of advocacy and equip them with practical tools to engage effectively in the advocacy process. Speakers shared both organizational and individual perspectives, along with best practices for communicating, navigating legislative sessions, and participating in public health advocacy.

The views expressed in these webinars are those of the individual presenters and do not necessarily reflect the official positions of TPHA or APHA. Presenters are speaking in their personal capacities. Some of the webinars were made possible with support from the American Public Health Association (APHA)'s mini-grant program.
